![]() On the morning of the tour departure, we will set you up with the motorcycle of your choice. Quito was the second capital of the Inca Empire after Cusco, Peru. We suggest you arrive a day or two early to experience this great town and get used to the altitude before your ride. UNESCO declared Quito a World Heritage Site in the 1970s for having the best-preserved and least altered historic center in all of Latin America. You’ll begin your tour from our shop in Quito, Ecuador - 2850 meters (almost 2 miles above sea level) in the Andes Mountains, on the Equator, in South America. You'll smell the fresh, wood-oven baked bread in colonial cities. You will pass through brilliant fields of multi-colored roses, see wild orchids in the rainforests, smell the eucalyptus and pine forests, ripening bananas, and ride through the salty mist along the shore. Ecuador provides you with a feast for all your senses. You can't experience these the same way while traveling in a bus or car. One of the things that sets a motorcycle trip apart from other types of tourism is the scents, fragrances, and aromas that you can experience while riding a motorcycle. ![]() You will experience the various cuisines of Ecuador such as the Criolla cuisine in Esmeraldas, fresh coffee from plantations in Loja, pure fresh chocolate from a cacao plantation in Guayas, hearty potato soups of the Andean highlands, and river fish steamed in Amazonian jungle leaves. We stopped at a store in Montecristi where several of us bought hats. We drove by a large statue of a woman making a Panama hat and saw a woman actually making one as we drove by. After the rain forest, we went to the town of Montecristi which is known for its Panama hats. We spotted a tarantula, several howler monkeys and a many different kinds of plants. Our local guide at the rain forest only spoke spanish but our tour guide translated as he pointed out the variety of flora and fauna. ![]() We then went to the Pacoche Rain Forest for a guided tour down a steep, narrow and slippery path, but well worth the effort. We then toured a museum where we learned some of the history of Ecuador and learned why genuine Panama Hats are only made in Ecuador. We started at the local fish market where we interacted with some of the local fisherman and observed as they sold their daily catch. ![]() Our guide was informative, spoke excellent english, and was able to keep our small group moving without losing anyone. We were promptly picked up as promised and on our way to a full and entertaining day. We had a great tour with Manta SOS Day Tours during our cruise stop in March 2018. ![]()
